Adelphi Theatre

The current Adelphi Theatre dates from 1930, but the site has a longer theatrical history stretching back through several earlier incarnations. Over the years the Adelphi became closely linked with musicals and crowd-pleasing commercial productions, making it one of the West End’s most recognisable large houses. Its Art Deco character gives it a distinctly twentieth-century glamour that sets it apart from some of the older Georgian and Victorian theatres nearby. Today it remains a major venue for headline productions and a familiar fixture in the West End’s theatrical geography.

Theatregoers arriving by rail will find Charing Cross especially convenient, while Embankment and Covent Garden are also practical depending on where you are coming from. The theatre sits right on the Strand, so it is an easy one to pair with dinner, the South Bank or a post-show drink in Covent Garden. Because the area gets busy before curtain up, it is wise to allow a little extra time if you are arriving by taxi.

The Adelphi works best as a full central London night out. Arrive early, take in the Strand and resist cutting it too fine before the show, as the pavements and roads nearby can feel hectic.
