History

Central, decorative and full of theatreland energy, the Garrick is one of the West End’s most characterful late-Victorian houses.

Opened in 1889, the Garrick Theatre takes its name from the legendary actor-manager David Garrick and has long occupied a prized position in Theatreland. It belongs to the late nineteenth-century wave of West End theatres that established the district in something like its recognisable modern form. Over the years it has become associated with a wide range of productions, but always with the sense of being a proper central London theatre where atmosphere and accessibility go hand in hand.

Getting Here

Leicester Square station is the simplest Tube option, and the theatre is also easy to reach from Charing Cross and Covent Garden. Because it sits in such a busy part of the West End, it is best approached with a little time in hand, especially if you plan to eat beforehand.

Grand Circle Tips

This is one of the most convenient theatres in London for visitors who want to feel right in the middle of Theatreland. There is little need to over-plan; simply arrive in the area early and let the surrounding streets do half the work.
