History

This Haymarket theatre blends Victorian roots with an especially strong modern reputation for high-quality drama.

Opened in 1881 as the Royal Comedy Theatre, the building later became the Comedy Theatre before being renamed in honour of Harold Pinter. Its history therefore spans both Victorian West End expansion and a more recent era of prestige drama. The theatre’s size and style make it particularly effective for productions driven by text and performance, and it has developed a reputation as a strong home for major dramatic work in the modern West End.

Getting Here

Piccadilly Circus is the most convenient Tube stop, with Charing Cross also possible on foot. The theatre is surrounded by restaurants and bars, especially around Haymarket and St James’s, making it an easy venue for a full evening out.

Grand Circle Tips

This is a superb theatre for audiences who prefer drama to spectacle and who appreciate a sense of occasion without needing an enormous house. The surrounding streets also make the approach feel distinctly West End.
