History

The Lyric is a compact Shaftesbury Avenue classic whose size helps it retain a lively, immediate atmosphere.

Opened in 1888, the Lyric Theatre belongs to the late-Victorian period that did so much to define the architecture of Theatreland. Though not as large as some nearby venues, it has exactly the sort of decorative and central identity many visitors imagine when they think of the West End. Over the years it has hosted a varied range of productions, with its size making it especially effective for work that benefits from audience closeness.

Getting Here

Piccadilly Circus is the nearest Tube, and Leicester Square is also close enough to be practical. The theatre is very easy to combine with Soho and Chinatown, which makes it one of the most convenient in the district for dinner beforehand.

Grand Circle Tips

This is a good theatre for people who want to be in the middle of the West End without being in one of the largest auditoria. The surrounding streets offer almost limitless options for food and drinks.

Restaurant Recommendation

Brasserie Zédel

Brasserie Zédel

Brasserie Zédel is a very convenient and stylish pre-theatre option for the Lyric, especially if you want a classic central London atmosphere.
