Menier Chocolate Factory

The Menier Chocolate Factory opened as a theatre in 2004, transforming a former industrial building into one of London’s most distinctive intimate performance spaces. The venue takes its name from the Menier Chocolate Company, whose London factory was part of Southwark’s nineteenth-century commercial life.

Its scale is central to its appeal. With around 180 seats, the theatre gives audiences a close, direct connection to the stage, making it well suited to musical revivals, chamber pieces, sharp comedies and productions where detail matters. The venue also includes a bar and restaurant, helping it feel like a complete theatre-night destination rather than just an auditorium.

Although it is outside the traditional West End, the Menier has had a major influence on London theatre. The Menier is ideal if you like intimate theatre and the feeling of discovering a production before it becomes widely known. Because the venue is small, popular shows can sell quickly. The surrounding Borough Market area is excellent for food, but it can be very busy, so booking ahead is sensible for a relaxed pre-theatre meal.
