The Trafalgar Theatre sits just off Trafalgar Square and brings together two different Londons: the political and ceremonial city of Whitehall, and the more playful theatrical world of the West End. History
The Trafalgar Theatre has a slightly different mood from many West End venues, shaped by its Whitehall setting and civic sense of occasion.
The current theatre on this site belongs to the twentieth century and has gone through a number of changes in name and format over time. In recent years it has been re-established as a significant central London theatre, helped enormously by a location that feels both prestigious and practical. Its position near Trafalgar Square gives it a slightly more open, ceremonial character than some of the denser theatre streets around Leicester Square or Covent Garden.
Getting Here
Charing Cross is the easiest station for most visitors, and Embankment is also practical depending on your route. Because the theatre is near Trafalgar Square, it is simple to combine with the National Gallery, Whitehall or a walk along the river.
Grand Circle Tips
The Trafalgar is a particularly good choice if you want theatre combined with some of central London’s most recognisable landmarks. It is one of the easiest venues to turn into a broader sightseeing-and-show evening.
